Synopsis

An annotated catalogue of a collection of Oriental manuscripts and books which the Swedish diplomat Sparfwenfeldt acquired in Egypt, Syria and Tunisia in 1691. He donated the collection to the University Library at Uppsala. The collection comprises 61 manuscripts mainly written in Arabic, Persian and Turkish. It further contains 42 printed works in different languages. At the end of the catalogue a few more mss. are added; three of the Chinese books were presented to Sparfwenfeldt by Philippe Couplet in 1690.
