In the first half of this book, the author traces the history of Saudi expansion in Eastern Arabia over the past century and a half, and the course of various negotiations to determine the frontiers. In the second half, he deals with events since the Second World War: the assertion of a sweeping frontier claim by Saudi Arabia in 1949, the Saudi occupation of the Buraimi Oasis from 1952 to 1955, the attempt to settle the frontier question by arbitration and the reasons for its failure.
