Synopsis

Fritz Milkau was the Director of the University Library Greifswald since 1902. He went as successor Wilhelm Ermans 1907 in the same function to the University Library Wroclaw , where he spent 14 happy and decisive years. In 1921 he followed Adolf von Harnack as Director General of the Prussian State Library in Berlin, which he led until 1925. In support of his teaching activities, he set up an extensive slide collection, which was created in the Photographic Workshop of the Prussian State Library from 1926 to 1933 and mostly consists of reproductions of book excerpts and graphics. From 1931 to 1933 Milkau published the three-volume first edition of the Handbuch der Bibliothekswissenschaft . He fell ill in 1933 and died at the beginning of the following year at the age of 74. The Librarian Institute ceased to exist with his death.
