Synopsis

Etienne Quatremère (1872-1857) a famous French orientalist who contributed many major studies on the Semitic peoples and languages. He was occupied for more than sixty years in the studies of geography and history of the Semitic peoples. He studied Hebrew, and Silvester de Sacy taught him Arabic.
