Synopsis

Mimar: Architecture in Development was first published in 1981 and had a print run of 43 issues. At the time of Mimar’s inception, it was the only international architecture magazine focusing on architecture in the developing world and related issues of concern. It aimed at exchanging ideas and images between countries that are developing new directions for their built environment. [Archnet].
The Aga Khan IV established The Aga Khan Award for Architecture (AKAA) in 1977. It aims to identify and reward architectural concepts that successfully address the needs and aspirations of Muslim societies in the fields of contemporary design, social housing, community development and improvement, restoration, as well as landscape design and improvement of the environment. The Award is presented in three-year cycles and has a monetary prize shared by multiple winning projects. MIMar journal reported on these Awards.
