Leon Beylié was a brigadier general, archaeologist and benefactor of the Museum of Grenoble. His military career unfolds mainly in French Indochina. After some writings concerning military tactics during his early career, he conducted several travel expeditions and wrote several books taking notes of architectural sketches, and excavation plans of remarkable precision.
Excavations at Prome and Mesopotamia was mainly devoted to Islamic architecture in Samarra. The Paris Geographical Society awarded him in 1909 the Great Gold Medal of Dewez Price.
