12mo (12.9 x 9.1 cm), Arabic manuscript on smoothed paper, few traces of use with more recent marginal notes, also some small notes in ball-point pens, few leaves blurred and stained, especially in the margins, Suras headlines in white on gold base with colour frame, each side with double text-frame in gold and red, French style binding of the 18th century with rich gold design on both lids, lightly faded, fitted in a modern cloth box, the colophon date Afyonkarahisar (West Aanatolien), Zilhicce 1252 (d. I. 1837).

Synopsis

An Ottoman Qu’ran of rather small format, written in calligraphic simple Naskhi style. The illumination using gold colour. At the end of the last section the colophon with the date and attribution of the writer, an Ahmed el-Sukûtî el-Mevlevî, a student of Hüseyin el-Râsid.
