Synopsis

During the early 1850’s, the author embarked upon a tour of Egypt and the Holy Land. The book ‘Sinai and Palestine’ ( first published March 1856), is a direct result of this journey and is perhaps the most widely popular of his writings.
The book looks into the connection of sacred history and sacred geography and recognises certain points where the two meet in Palestine: Influence on National Character; influence on forms of expression; explanations of particular events; evidences of the truth of the history; illustration of the scenes of events; and poetical and proverbial use of the geography.
