Synopsis

Frederick Shoberl (1775-1853), was an English journalist, editor and illustrator. He created his own hand-coloured engravings for The World in Miniature, a series which was published during the 1820’s by R. Akermann in London. The series covered different parts of the world including Persia. It is a description of the country, characters, manners, customs, dress, religion, women, and other particularities of different nations.
‘The World in Miniature: Persia’ was the fifth title in the series. According to Abbey ‘The aim of this interesting series was to increase the store of knowledge concerning the various branches of the great family of man’.
