First edition. Hilmy and Tobler both cite a German translation dated 1820. While stationed in Malta, Light obtained leave to explore Egypt and Palestine. The plates, which include 2 views of Cyprus, are after drawings by the author and are among the earliest illustrations of the Nubian temple . Previous to Light only Thomas Legh and J. S. Buckingham had travelled in this region, and Buckingham’s book was published several years later.
