Synopsis

During his visit to India, Marquis Wellesley ordered Valentia to survey the Eastern Coast of Africa and to investigate the possibilities of trade with Abyssinia and neighbouring countries. Most of the principal places bordering the Red Sea were visited including Massowah and Mocha. Henry Salt accompanied the expedition and two chapters in Vol. 2, and 6 chapters in Vol. 3, contains his narrative of the expedition.
