This landmark biography, first printed in France, with the title " Lawrence l'Imposteur" sparked a great controversy for its attempt to debunk " the Lawrence legend'. This edition has some changes from the French edition, and there were attempts to prevent its publication. Later biographers, while not necessarily agreeing with Aldington's critical views, were forced to address the issues he raised. [O'Brein E192].
