The first edition appeared earlier the same year. Lindsay was the great book collector and traveller. This work is dedicated to John Farren, formerly Consul-General in Syria. It consists of a series of letters addressed to various members of Lindsay's family. The journey covers Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
