12mo. [4], 199 pp., modern marbled boards, new endpapers, title gilt on spine, slightly short margins, last leaf laid down, browned with occasional foxing, previous owner’s inscription on front endpaper, Henricus Keyser, Uppsala, 1694.

The very first monograph on the subject of Arabic studies and the Arabic language, and no. 1 in Schnurrer's bibliography. It was defended as a thesis under the Orientals G.P. Lilljenblad; a second edition appeared in 1704.
Olof Celsius the Elder (1670 – 1756) was a Swedish botanist, philologist and clergyman. He was a professor at Uppsala University, Sweden. Celsius was the foremost orientalist and librarian of the 18th century. He wrote his most famous book on biblical plants, Hierobotanicos, in 1745-47.
