René Gombault (1871–1971) was a French botanist and mountaineer . He was a civil servant and after spending his entire professional career in Customs, René explored Bayonne (1911) and Cambó (1919) to discover the Pyrenees. He was also the author of several works on Pyrenean archaeology and prehistory, published in the "Bulletin de la Société des Sciences, Lettres, Arts de Bayonne" between 1914 and 1970.
