Bertold Spuler (1911-1990) was was a German Orientalist. He was appointed in 1943 as full professor of Semitic Philology and Islamic Studies at the University of Munich. He later headed the Islamic Institute of the University of Göttingen.
As a scientist Spuler has emerged by being one of the first editors of the publication “Handbook of Oriental Studies” which has been published in series since 1950 and claimed to cover all areas of Oriental Studies.
