Archaeological remains and ruins along the coast of Syria attest to a rich cultural heritage, but are hardly known amongst a wider public. Crusaders, Romans and Phoenicians have left numerous architectural remains that still impress visitors to the region today. The Syrian coast has recently gained renewed interest, due to the Belgian excavations at Jebleh, Tell Tweini and Tell Kazel, which have added new perspectives on the history of this area.
