Ibn al-Ibri, Grighor Abu al-Faraj called Bar Hebraeus

Arabic text, 591 pp., 31 pp of Jadwal al-Tahweel al-Hijri vs al-Miladi, errta leaf, contemporary half calf with marbles boards and endpars, lightly rubbed round edges, marbled outer edges, title gilt on spine, small stain on title page, otherwise copy in very good condition, edited by Father Antoun Salhani, Catholic Press for the Jesuit Fathers in Beirut, 1890.

Abu’l Faraj Ibn al-Ibri (1225-1286). This is his most important work which was translated into Latin and edited by the leading Arabist scholar of Oxford Edward Pocock, who was appointed as chaplain to the English of Aleppo in 1629. In 1663 Pocock brought out the Arabic text and Latin translation of this work, of which an excerpt had formed the text of the ‘ Specimen’ thirteen years before.
Ibn al-Ibri in this work discusses history from the Creation to his own times; the Arabic version has additions on Bible history (which it was superstitious to incorporate in the Syriac original) and on the mathematical and medical literature of the Arabs edition.
