"This publication contains a listing of the publications of 571 individuals who have served at one time or another and for various duration as members of the faculty of the American University of Beirut. In number, the publications border on 6000 of which about a fifth are books. The rest are articles published in over 500 journals. The value of this bibliography lies in its being one of the finest criteria for measuring the development of the university from its modest and simple beginning as a teaching institution to its present eminence and more complex structure as a center for teaching and research, engaged both in transmitting the cultural and scientific heritage of the area from one generation to another and also in adding to it and enriching it.
