LIMITED AND NUMBERED EDITION OF 500 COPIES OF WHICH THIS COPY IS NUMBERED 362. Forty three professors and pupils, have contributed to this memorial volume. The essays deals with subjects connected with Arabic, Persian and Turkish literature, art, architecture which was presented to Professor Edward Granville Browne on his 60th birthday.
Browne ( 1862-1925) was a British scholar who specialized in Persian studies. He deplored the negative aspects of British and Russian influence which permeated so much on 19th century Persian history, and wrote many controversial essays in defence of the constitutional revolution of 1906.
He is considered one of the greatest champions of Persian studies. He wrote his monumental work entitled “A Literary History of Persia”.
