Abu al-Fida was a historian, geographer and local governor of Hamah. He was also a prince of the Ayyubid dynasty. This description of Egypt is in fact part of the monumental work of Abu al-Fida known as The Concise History of Humanity or Chronicles (Taqwim al-Buldan). It is possible that this is the first translation of this text to a European language by the leading scholar Michaelis.
