Muhammad al-Najjari (d. 1914) was educated in France and Egypt. In this comprehensive dictionary al-Najjari makes the first attempt to combine in one work the famous dictionaries of Ibn Mazur and al-Firuzabadi. He tried to arrange the words alphabetically instead of according to their roots (which previously has been standard in Arabic dictionaries).
