A classification of carpenters, joiners, cabinetmakers, inlayer and sculptors in wood in the Islamic World. Since wood was scarce in the land of Islam, certain characteristics of Islamic woodwork have been explained by the author. Also since the present volume deals with every kind of object made of wood, from jewel-boxes to town gates, there is no common ground for any discussion of the place preferred by woodcarvers for their signatures. A list of 146 woodcarvers is published arranged chronologically.
