Vogué, [Vicomte Charles Jean Melchoir de].

Steel engraved colour folding plan, 34.50 x 28 cm, kept in a marbled thick paper, fitted in a slipcase, title gilt on spine of slipcase, printed by E. Andriveau-Goujon, (Rue de Bac No. 21), Paris, 1859.

Charles de Vogue (1829-1916) travelled with William Waddington in 1853 and 1854, exploring the area from Aleppo to Damascus, Palmyra and Basra. It was an important expedition and a lot of new material was uncovered. The author became an ambassador to the Porte in 1871.
The plan indicates the location of monuments and streets during that period. Vogue locates in blue 16 major sites in the city including Tour of David, Church of Holy Sepulchre and several other places.
