A presentation copy by the author, signed and dated. The work comprises eight articles on the life and work of an orientalist from colonial times. Hurgronje, C. Snouck (1857-1936), a Dutch Arabist and traveller, was a professor of the Arabic language in the University of Leiden. He travelled to Arabia in 1884-85, and had the opportunity to live in Mekka for six months and in Jeddah for another six months.
