Synopsis

Limited first edition of 1000 copies of which this is numbered 520.
In 1910, Lawrence submitted a thesis on the Crusader Castles for his degree at Oxford. Much of the information had been gathered on a visit to Syria in 1909 and on earlier trips in France and the British Isles. Lawrence photographed the castles as well as drew ground plan sketches. The first publication of his work appeared in 1936, the year following his death. Volume I contains the thesis, while volume II is a selection of letters to his family written while exploring castles.
