Synopsis

A major study covering Islamic pottery in general, and the Andalusian in particular. ‘ Twelfth and thirteen century records of the Arabs living and working at Toledo reveal that the manufacture of pottery was even then a flourishing business. Potters are referred to by name, and one, Ibn Taurino the Musluman, was described as a main, or chief of potters…. Toledo potters have appeared in wills and records of property exchanges’. Pottery was also produced in several Andalusian cities, and Islamic pottery from al-Andalus was exported in a big quantity to Italy and England. It is a known fact that the Italian pottery in later periods was influenced by the Islamic pottery of Spain.
