Synopsis

Joseph-Toussaint Reinaud (1795-1867), studied Arabic with the help of the famous Orientalist Silvester de Sacy. He worked on Islamic monuments and translated into French what the Arabs wrote on the Crusades wars. After the death of de Sacy, Reinaud started teaching Arabic, and later in 1847 was elected Head of the Société Asiatique.
This work is considered his most famous. It is an extensive study on the exquisite collection of Duke of Blacas and other French collectors. It is divided into four parts that cover Islamic works of art in coral, jade, glass, gold, metals, and carpets.
