Synopsis

An autobiography of the Dutch scholar and diplomat Van Der Meulen, who was a student of the Dutch Orientalist Snouck Hurgronje. Van Der Meulen discusses his appointment in 1926 as a Dutch Consul in Jeddah, and his contacts with King Abdul Aziz al-Saud. He also gives an account about his diplomatic travels in Yemen and Hadhramaut.
