Rare eighteen century travel account by a Venetian missionary to Palestine, Syria, Lebanon. Sinai, and Egypt. Petrus Antonius de Venetia (Pietro Antonio da Venezia) spent many years in Palestine.
In the fifteenth century, a new motivation for Western European travel arose, education, missionary and experiences. the Grand Tour represents the intersection of travel and education. By the eighteenth century the Grand Tour was firmly in place. Large numbers of travellers went East, especially visiting Greece, Egypt and the Holy Land. This work is an interesting early guide of the city of Jerusalem. Rohricht cites five editions printed in Venice between 1700 and 1726.
