Synopsis

Hurgronje, C. Snouck was a Dutch Arabist and traveller. He was a professor of the Arabic language in the University of Leiden. He travelled to Arabia in 1884-85, and had the opportunity to live in Mekka for six months and in Jeddah for another six months.
Life and works of Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1857-1936) mark an important period of the European study of Islam and of Dutch colonial history. This work is titled: “Izhar al-Islam”, a neglected aspect of colonial history.
