Synopsis
Khalil Saadah ( 1857-1934). A Lebanese scholar who lived most of his life in exile in Egypt and South America. Saadah graduated in 1883 from the American University of Beirut as a Medical doctor. He published in 1883, with two other colleagues, the first medical journal in Arabic “Al-Tabib”, he also published several books in Cairo, San Paulo and Argentina. From Egypt, which he left after severed ties with the Khedives, he migrated to South America where he ended up spending the rest of his life. Soon after setting foot in Argentina, he issued a periodical called Al-Majalla. His stay was marked by several social initiatives. He launched the Syrian Press Trade Union designed to address cultural and social concerns, and then announced the creation of the National Democratic Party.
This magazine was published and edited by Dr. Saadeh while he resided in Argentina. He commented in his articles the major incidents of the First World War, the great famine in Syria and the collapse of the Ottomans and their defeat during the war.
