Synopsis

Rare work. Johannes Hendrick Kramers, a German orientalist who worked as an interpreter to the Netherlands Legation in Istanbul for six years. In 1922 he was appointed as a professor in the University of Leiden on the initiative of his old teacher Dr. Snouck Hurgronje.
The present collection comprises a number of articles not previously published, from those who left behind and deals with different aspects of Islamic civilization.
