Synopsis

This study focuses on the theory of the poem of the North African Hazim al-Qartaganni, an original but seldom known author of the 13th century, as it appeared in an extended chapter of his masterpiece entitled Minhag al-bulaga wa-sirag al-udaba. This text is important because it was Hazim who first attempted to develop a coherent system in which all different elements of the poem assume their logical position and he who also borrowed from the Arabic tradition of Aristotle’s Poetique.
