Synopsis

This pioneering work, recording over 1800 titles, occasionally with comments and annotations. Volume I contains Arabic, Persian and Turkish books, Christian literature of India, Indochina, Malaysia, China and Japan. Volume II contains a supplement to volume one, plus an index of oriental titles, an index of European authors and an index of Orientalist authors.
Zenker (1811-1884) was an accomplished German orientalist, a doctor of philosophy, member of the Oriental Society of Leipzig and Halle, and a member of the Asian Society of Paris. In 1867, he published a substantial German/French Dictionary of Turkish, Persian and Arab, which were and are still used as references.
