Synopsis

Rare photo series based on paintings and drawings by Edmund Wörndle of Adelsfried. The Austrian landscape painter (1827-1906) is considered the last significant representative of Romantic painting in Tyrol. Together with his brother he attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 1855 he set out for Palestine and Syria with an Austrian pilgrimage. On this trip, the sketches for the Palestinian paintings were created. These pictures were published in Vienna and in Innsbruck. The panels with decorative landscape paintings of Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jeremiah’s Grotto, River Jordan Valley, the Sermon on the Mount, the city of Shechem, the city and lake of Tiberias, Joshaphat Valley and others.
