Synopsis

Gaston Wiet (1887-1971), a leading specialist in Islamic art. He worked between 1909 and 1911 with the Institut Français d’Archaeologie Orientale in Egypt. After the Second World War he worked with the French forces in Syria and Lebanon producing several studies on Islamic art in Syria and Egypt.
This study covers 78 Islamic lamps beginning with the reign of the Ayyubids Sultan of Aleppo and Damascus Malik Nasser Yusuf (1260).
