Synopsis

The term Maiolica is used to describe all varieties glazed earthenware of Italian origin. However, originally the term was restricted to the lustre wares which resembled those produced in the island of Majorca from where they had long been imported into Italy. Nearly all specimens of Hispano-Moresque pottery found in museums and private collections have been procured in Italy, very few have been found in Spain.
Catalogue of the large collection of some 1450 pieces of Italian maiolica in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
