[18], 328 pp., / 397 pp., [11], title printed in red and black, engraved folding frontispiece portrait, folding map, 7 folding plates, marbled full-calf, title gilt on raised spine, all edges red, bookplate of Madame La Contesse de Langeac dated 1754, old inscription on title pages, occasional browning, otherwise set in very good condition, Chez Rollin, Paris, 1740.


Second edition, the first edition appeared in 4to in 1735. There is another issue of this second edition with the imprint ‘À La Haye, chez Isaac Beauregard’. This issue is identical to the Paris edition, ornaments and all, with the exception of the imprint. The plates include a map of Upper Egypt, Cleopatra’s Needle, the Pompey’s Column and a plan of the great Pyramid.
Le Mascrier (1697-1760) was a French clergyman and author. He wrote several books covering different aspects of ancient Egypt.
