Synopsis

This study focuses on the Persian poet Kamal Ud-Din Isma’il Aus Isfahan, who was born around the year 568/1172 and died in 635/1237. His diwan consists of more than 15000 line of poetry in the form of qasida, tarkib-band, qit’a, ghazal, and ruba’i. Among these the most prominent code is occupied by the qasida-i madhiya, the panegyrical ode. This study is based on an examination of the whole corpus of Kamal’s panegyrical odes, i.e 134 qasidas and tarkib-bands as well as several long qit’as. It is divided into three parts.
