Synopsis

On the 20th of October, 1874, Selah Merrill was appointed the archaeologist of the American Palestine Exploration Society, and left New York in June 1875 to Beirut. During 1875-77, he made four different expeditions in Syria and Palestine. The journals of these expeditions is presented in this work.
During two years in the field Merrill worked under the immediate advice and direction of an advisory committee of specialist based in Beirut.
