Luigi Villari was an Italian historian, traveller and diplomat, as well as newspaper correspondent in the east of Europe. He travelled to the Caucasus in 1905, during the Russian nationalist conflict. Chapters cover the history of the Caucasus, Batum, the Georgian movement, Tiflis, Armenians, Tartars and the Russian Government, as well as other aspects of local culture.
