Synopsis

Al-Shaqab is a famous stud of Arabian horses in Qatar. In December 1871, a contingent of Ottoman troops cam to Al-Bia area, 15 kilometer from Doha city., at the invitation of Sheikh Jassim al-Thani to counterbalance the British power on the coast of Qatar. In April 1893 a fierce battle erupted between the Qataris and the Ottoman troops in the area of Shaqab. The role of the Qatari Arabian horses played in that battle, was the reason of establishing this major stud which contains the purest races of Arabian horse.
