Les Arabes Chrétiens de Mesopotamie et de Syrie du VIIe au VIIIe Siècle.
Nau, François 1864-1931.
Synopsis
“The work of François Nau on the Christian Arabs of Mesopotamia and Syria from the seventh to the eighth century – which is related to two articles published in the Museon: About an Arabic leaflet , t. XLIII (1930), p. 85-116 and 221-262, and The Marriage Policy of Cyrus the Mocaucasus , t. XLV (1932), p. 1-17 – remains unfinished. For paragraphs 7 and 8 announced in the summary of chapter x have not been developed by the author in the manuscript submitted for printing. At least, by their very titles, they indicate the conclusion of this study, namely that, for MK Ahrens, Muhammad approached Christianity, without succeeding, and that, for Francois Nau, Mohammed, on the contrary, seems to have left Christianity and to have moved away from it. Our task was therefore limited to correcting the proofs of printing, so that the first issue of the Cahiers de la Société Asiatique gives the last work of the late Orientalist in the state where death put an end to his activity, which has been truly prodigious, as will be shown by his obituary and bibliography, which will soon be published in the Asian Journal” Maurice Briere.
