Synopsis

A French translation of Sayeghir’s written account of his travels first appeared in 1835, and then in English in 1836. He claimed to have accompanied M. Lascaris de Ventimiglia, Napoleon’s secret agent, on an extended mission travelling amongst the Bedouin tribes of Mesopotamia and the Euphrates valley. Sayeghir’s “diary” of their journey contains vivid descriptions of Bedouin lifestyle, their many adventures and the successful completion of their mission to encourage the tribes to unite with France.
