Synopsis

Karl von Raumer (1783-1865), a German scholar who studied law and mineralogy at Goettingen and Freiburg. He travelled to Egypt and the Holy Land studying the geological formation of the mountains and deserts of the area. This work is one of the earliest German scientific studies of the Holy Land in which the author contributes new information about the geography of Palestine and Jordan. Large section of this work is dedicated to the city of Jerusalem with detailed plans and measurements.
