Synopsis

The work describes the growth of British protection over the Sheikhdom of Bahrain and explains how and why this relationship changed between 1869 and 1915. The 1870s marked the end of Britain’s exclusive control of the waters of the Gulf as various European powers made their appearance there. The period under study is one in which the Pax Britanica in Bahrain was faced with growing challenges.
