Synopsis

The very first monograph on the subject of Arabic studies and the Arabic language, and no. 1 in Schnurrer’s bibliography. It was defended as a thesis under the Orientals G.P. Lilljenblad; a second edition appeared in 1704.
Olof Celsius the Elder (1670 – 1756) was a Swedish botanist, philologist and clergyman. He was a professor at Uppsala University, Sweden. Celsius was the foremost orientalist and librarian of the 18th century. He wrote his most famous book on biblical plants, Hierobotanicos, in 1745-47.
