Synopsis

Muhammad bin ‘Abbas abu Bakr al-Khawarizmi (935-993), a leading Arab poet and writer. He claimed that his mother was the sister of the historian al-Tabari. He was born in Khawarizm and spent his youth there. He travelled to Sijistan, Damascus and Aleppo and served Sayf al-Dawla, the founder of the Emirate of Aleppo. It is widely known that Badi’ al-Zaman al-Hamadani, the author of al-Maqamat, achieved his early success through a public debate with Abu Bakr al-Khawarizmi.
