Synopsis

First edition published in 1699. The identity of the author remains uncertain, the majority of authorities including Barbier have suggested Baudot de Jully. Palau indicates that others believed that either Felix de Juvenil, the author of “Dom Pelage ou l’entrée des Maures en Espagne” or Gabriel de Bremont, the translator of “Guzman de Alfarache” was the true author.
For the three editions to have been published is a testimony to the considerable French interest in the subject.
